Diving Eastern Fiji

The Great Astrolabe Reef

The Great Astrolabe Reef located in the South Pacific Ocean, Fiji,  is an underwater oasis and some say it offers some of the best diving on the planet. It is the fourth largest barrier reef in the world that stretches out to a whopping 96 kilometers, reaching depths from 5 metres to 30 metres. Surrounding Kadavu and Ono islands, this reef offers all underwater enthusiasts a full on sensory experience. Some of the best dive sites are Alacrity Rocks, Eagle Rock and the Naiqoro Passage where you will most likely come across reef sharks, manta rays, turtles, dolphins, barracudas, pilot whales, billfish, tuna, giant trevally and many more fish.

Broken Stone also known as ‘Alacrity Rocks’ is located at the eastern end of the Great Astrolabe Reef. If you like cavern formations this site is for you as it has many tunnels, arches, swim-throughs, caverns and canyons to enjoy and explore.

Eagle Rock offers the best of the Great Astrolabe Reef with fast water passages, rock pinnacles, beautiful hard coral and fish life from colourful reef minnows to pelagics and manta rays.

Naiqoro Passage is now a recognised marine sanctuary that is part of the Great Astrolabe Reef. Known for its strong currants through its narrow channel off the south-east coast of Kadavu Island. When the currents are strong, you’d better hold on to your hats and get ready for this exciting ride.

Pacific Voyager is a 61-metre-long tanker that was sunk near the Rooper Reef on the northern side of Kadavu in 1994. Its depth is currently around 30 metres and has now become part of this wonderful seascape.

Yellow Wall is a great spot for novice divers with its abundant of soft yellow corals amongst a series of neat arches.

Manta Reef is where you will have the best chance to encounter some amazing Manta Rays. These massive rays are known to be cruising alongside the reef.
